About Us

Galil Medical is a global leader in delivering innovative cryotherapy solutions. The company addresses patient conditions across multiple physician specialties; treatment areas include conditions affecting bone, kidney, liver, lung and prostate, as well as targeted pain and nerve applications. Company offices are located in Arden Hills, Minnesota and Yokneam, Israel. Shareholders include Thomas, McNerney & Partners, The Vertical Group, and Investor Growth Capital.

Galil Medical’s technology involves ablating diseased tissue through freezing in a technique referred to as cryotherapy. The core technology is based on the Joule-Thomson effect (JT), in which compressed gas causes significant, rapid temperature changes.

Galil Medical cryotherapy systems use compressed Argon gas to produce extremely low temperatures. As the gas passes through the cryoablation needle, the tip of the needle is cooled, forming an iceball. The iceball engulfs the tumor and destroys the tissue. A variety of needle types are available to sculpt a freeze zone conformed to the tumor size and shape.

Galil Medical cryosurgical systems precisely deliver sub-zero temperatures to target tissue. These systems operate with the aid of patented cryoablation needles and high-resolution imaging for the cryosurgical ablation of benign tissue and cancerous tumors. During a minimally invasive percutaneous procedure, the integration of high resolution imaging with ultrasound, CT, or MRI enables a high level of control for: a) needle placement and positioning, b) iceball formation in real-time, and c) the freezing process.

Cryotherapy ablation has been widely used for prostate cancer treatment, kidney cancer treatment and pain management. New ablation treatments for various other diseases are in development for the Interventional Radiology markets.
