CRYOABLATION
PRODUCTS
Galil Medical Cryoablation
Products
Galil Medical develops a range of products, based on a state-of-the-art cryotherapy platform and incorporating powerful freezing technology and revolutionary needle design. The company’s core technology, originally developed for missiles and adapted for minimally invasive surgery, involves freezing diseased tissue in a technique referred to as cryotherapy, cryoablation, or cryosurgery.
Galil Medical products have been used in urologic cryotherapy procedures for prostate cancer treatment and kidney cancer treatment, as well as in Interventional Radiology (IR) and by general surgeons as treatment for liver cancer, lung tumors, and bone tumors.
Originally developed for prostate
cryoablation, Galil Medical continues to broaden
its scope in providing cryo applications for a
full range of clinical applications.
17-gauge Cryoablation Needles
The Galil Medical cryotherapy platform uses compressed
Argon gas through the Joule-Thomson effect to
produce extremely low temperatures for cryosurgical
ablation. Computer-controlled freeze and thaw
are administered via patented 17-gauge
disposable cryoablation needles.
Galil Medical developed the smallest diameter needles on the market for targeted cryotherapy ablation with minimal trauma to patients. A range of needles is available to sculpt a precise freeze zone to match the shape and size of the tumor. Easy, percutaneous insertion allows the flexibility to simultaneously ablate multiple tumors, or large lesions in a single cryosurgical treatment.
Galil-Medical offers a full portfolio of 17G (1.47 mm) needles targeting the diverse needs of different clinical applications. Needles are designed to provide different iceball shapes and sizes as well as 90 degree needles for CT image-guidance applications and MRI compatible needles for MRI guided surgery Recently, Galil Medical developed a new family of 17-gauge needles which enables freezing and thawing using only Argon gas.
17-gauge Thermal sensors (TS)
and Multi-point Thermal Sensors (MTS)
Continuous temperature monitoring is provided by small diameter needles which are inserted in the same way as cryoablation needles. Thermal sensors (TS) may be used for real-time temperature monitoring for enhanced safety. The temperature sensors are usually used to confirm that the boundaries of the tumor have been frozen and that adjacent healthy tissue has not been damaged.
The Presice™ Cryoablation System features multipoint thermal
sensors (MTS) that record temperatures throughout
the gland, or tumor, for a high level of procedure
control. The MTS features 4 independent temperature
readings to monitor zones of destruction and the
area of viability.
Cryotherapy Systems
The SeedNet™
system and MRI
SeedNet™ system have been the backbone of
Galil Medical’s cryotherapy product offering for
minimally invasive procedures for various clinical
applications. The SeedNet™
system has flexible integration with ultrasound,
or CT providing a high level of control for cryoablation
needle placement and positioning, iceball formation,
and the freezing process during the ablation treatment.
The MRI SeedNet™ is a unique MRI-compatible
cryotherapy system that combines the precision
of cryoablation with the clarity of MRI visualization
to deliver minimally invasive renal
cancer ablation, liver cancer and lung cancer
ablation, bone cancer ablation, as well as other
image-guided procedures. A complete range of MRI
compatible cryoablation needles is available for
various applications. MRI is superior to other
imaging modalities, providing clear visualization
of the iceball margin to ensure complete ablation,
and monitoring of the ice coverage of the tumor
in 3D for enhanced procedure control.
The introduction of the Presice™
Cryoablation System has taken cryosurgery
(freezing) to a new level. The Presice™
Cryoablation System was specifically designed
for urologists to streamline workflow and ensure
accurate clinical results. Cryo innovations include
multi-point thermal sensors (MTS), IceVue™
planning software and i-Thaw™ (argon only)
technology. A range of cryo needles is available
with both Helium and i-Thaw™ capability. Various
accessories including a brachytherapy-like prostate
template and versatile needle holder add to the
ease of cryotherapy procedures.
The company’s cryotherapy systems
and 17-gauge
cryoablation needles have been used in thousands
of prostate
cryosurgery, kidney
cryosurgery, and image-guided
tumor ablation procedures in countries around
the globe.
Training is an important aspect
for physicians adopting cryotherapy. Galil Medical
recruits physicians interested in treating prostate
cancer and kidney cancer with cryotherapy. Training
opportunities are available in several global
locations for minimally invasive procedures using
the Presice™
and SeedNet™
cryoablation systems.
Galil Medical's products have FDA
clearance for a wide range of cancerous and benign
conditions including general surgery, thoracic
surgery, gynecology, oncology, and urology applications.
