Cryoablation Needles
(Disposables)
17-Gauge Cryoablation
Needle Types
Galil Medical developed the smallest diameter cryoablation needles on the market for targeted cryotherapy ablation with minimal trauma to patients. The 17-gauge disposable cryoablation needle portfolio targets the diverse needs of different clinical applications.
Ultra-thin needles provide precise coverage and uniform lethal temperature distribution, which results in highly accurate and controlled destruction of tissue in cryosurgical procedures. As compared to large cryoprobes, 17-gauge cryoablation needles are inserted without incisions, so patients benefit from a minimally invasive procedure with short recovery.
Galil Medical first introduced
SeedNet™,
a third generation cryotherapy
system especially designed for prostate cryoablation
based on unique ultra-thin 17 gauge (1.47mm) needle
technology. Recognizing the clinical value of
percutaneous procedures, Galil Medical became
the first manufacturer to develop these innovative
cryoablation needles.
Needles are designed to provide different
iceball shapes and sizes as well as 90 degree
needles for CT image-guidance applications and
MRI compatible needles for MRI guided surgery.
Recently, Galil Medical introduced The Presice™
Cryoablation System and a new family of 17-gauge
needles which freeze and thaw using only Argon
gas.
A variety of cryoablation needle types, standard configurations and software control enables sculpting of a precise freeze zone to match the size and shape of the target tumor.
The IceSeed™
needle creates a small, round shaped iceball
for targeting small tumors. When multiple needles
are used in predetermined configurations, ablation
can be performed on larger tumors.
The IceRod™
needle creates a large, oval shaped iceball
for prostate cryotherapy treatment, as well as
target tissue that requires a larger lethal freeze
zone. Galil Medical, in conjuction with physicians
performing cryo procedures, has developed a set
of standard configurations for repeatable prostate
procedures.
The IceSphere® needle was especially designed to meet the needs of physicians performing image guided tumor ablation.
The IceSphere is suitable for small round tumors, providing physicians enhanced iceball-sculpting capabilities to tailor patient treatment.
The IceBulb™ needle creates a large, pear-shaped iceball for targeted treatment of large tumors.
Image Guidance Compatibility
For image-guided
cryotherapy ablation, Galil Medical offers
a range of cryoablation needles compatible with
ultrasound, CT and MRI image guidance. Efforts
have been made to develop needles that match the
specific needs of the selected imaging modality.
The tips of entire 17-gauge cryoablation needle
family are highly echogenic as many procedures
are performed under ultrasound guidance. The echogenic
tip is clearly seen on the ultrasound, aiding
the physician in accurate placement.
A full range of MR-compatible needles is available for use with the MRI SeedNet™ System for MR-guided surgery. For CT guided procedures, a 90 degree needle is available for easy insertion under tight physical constraints.
• CT compatible, 90° handle and straight needles
• MRI compatible needles
Heating without Helium
The Presice™ Cryoablation system offers flexible support for i-Thaw™ and Helium thaw needles. i-Thaw™ needles use low pressure Argon to thaw, eliminating the need for Helium tanks for space and cost efficiency. Presice™ supports the use of IceSeed™ i-Thaw™ and IceRod™ i-Thaw™ cryoablation needles, as well as IceSeed™ Helium Thaw and IceRod™ Helium Thaw needles.
